No Blood Tests in the Basket
If you already have a phlebotomist or local clinic that can take blood, then there is no need to use one of our mobile nurses. Blue Horizon Medicals have been supplying vacutainer kits to our patients since 2009. Vacutainer kits require a healthcare professional to take your blood, and often your own GP, practice nurse, or your local hospital or clinic will be glad to assist. The advantage of a vacutainer kit is that it can hold a lot of blood, making testing for over 40 parameters possible, and a blood draw is more likely to succeed than with a fingerprick microtainer sample. We do not offer finger prick kits in Ireland due to the higher margin of error.
Once you have ordered your blood test, one of our nurses will be in touch to arrange your phlebotomy if you choose to use this service. There is no postal kit to wait for (our nurse will bring all equipment) and if the collection is successful you'll just need to post the blood back to the laboratory in Dublin in the envelope supplied by the nurse. There is an average lead time of seven days between ordering you blood test and the Nurse attending. If you choose self arrange sample collection all you will need to do is wait for your test kit to arrive, arrange for your own sample to be taken and post the blood back to the laboratory in Dublin in the envelope supplied. * Please note: You must be 18 or over to use our nurse visit service.

This Private Blood Test for Iron Status Profile is available across Ireland through our Nurse home visit service.
Iron: The serum iron level is a measure of the circulating iron in the blood. It tells us (along with TIBC/UIBC, transferrin and ferritin) the state of the body's iron reserves. An excess in a health screening can indicate disorders of iron storage (such as haemochromatosis), while low levels may indicate (along with changes in TIBC/UIBC, transferrin saturation and ferritin) iron deficiency.
TIBC:The TIBC (total iron binding capacity) is a measure of the body's ability to store iron. The higher the level within a health screening, the less iron there is in reserve. This test can be used to detect iron deficiency, and also conditions of iron excess (such as haemochromatosis). It is an equivalent test to UIBC.
Ferritin: Ferritin is a protein found in the blood which carries iron. Like TIBC/UIBC, and transferrin saturation, it can tell us how much iron is stored in the body. The higher the level within a health screening, the greater the amount of iron stored. This test can be used to detect iron deficiency, and also conditions of iron excess (such as haemochromatosis). Ferritin can also be raised if inflammation is present in the body somewhere.
